They include: a 140-hp 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 128 pound-feet of torque paired to a standard 5-speed manual transmission (26 city/34 highway MPG) or optional 5-speed automatic (25/36 MPG), a 113-hp 1.8-liter engine powered by natural gas (24/36 MPG), a 110-hp 1.3-liter 4-cylinder gasoline/electric engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT)(40/45 MPG), and a 197-hp 2.0-liter engine that features a limited-slip front differential and is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission (21/29 MPG). If all you need is the basics, then the base DX trim should satisfy you with its easy-to-read two-tier instrument panel, 15-inch steel wheels, power windows, tilt/telescopic steering wheel, seating for five, and height-adjustable driver seat. A 4-speaker CD/MP3 sound system, auxiliary audio jack, and A/C can be tacked onto the GX by adding the Value Package. Moving up into the LX trim nets you 16-inch steel wheels, keyless entry, cruise control, full power accessories, center console with sliding armrest, folding rear seatback, and cruise control. (The natural gas GX model comes basically comparably equipped to the LX.) For a slightly sportier feel, go with the LX-S, which replaces the steel wheels with alloy wheels; adds perforated leather wrapping to the steering wheel; and also gives you a chrome exhaust outlet, rear spoiler, and black sport front seats with exclusive silver stitching.
Continue moving on up and you reach the EX trim. This trim amps up the luxury and functionality courtesy of a 60/40-split rear seatback with a fold-down armrest, 16-inch alloy wheels, ambient console lighting, a sunroof, and a 6-speaker sound system with steering-wheel-mounted audio controls and USB Audio Interface, as well as a subwoofer on coupe body styles. (The efficient Civic Hybrid model essentially shares a features list with the EX, but also comes equipped with automatic climate control and can have optional heated leather seats added if desired.) Finally, the range-topping EX-L caps off the luxury quotient with standard heated door mirrors, plush leather-trimmed cabin and upholstery, and heated front seats. Meanwhile, the Civic Si goes for the ultimate in sportiness thanks to sport seats, a sport-tuned suspension, unique interior trim, fog lights, and 17-inch alloy wheels mounted to high-performance tires. EX, Hybrid, EX-L, and Si models can also be equipped with an optional Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with voice recognition with Bluetooth HandsFreeLink and satellite radio. |  | Civic Safety Features
As for safety, all Civic models come with standard Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure; anti-lock braking system (ABS); Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) system; front side airbags, full-length side-curtain airbags, and front airbags; active front head restraints; and much more. The Civic Sedan features a front passenger Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), while Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) comes on the EX-L, Hybrid, and Si. Four-wheel disc brakes are only accessible on the EX and Si; all other models and trims feature rear drums instead. Its performance in frontal-offset and side-impact tests earned it a rating of "Good," the top rating available, from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
